What is Geneseo SEX[Ed]?

Research shows that when college students want to learn about sex and sexual health, they’d rather learn about it from other students who understand what they’re going through.  That’s where we come in!  Starting Fall 2024, we’ll be launching a peer-led program focused on sexual health education and safer sex practices.

Here’s how it will work: first, students will have the opportunity to take a sociology course on sexual health. Once you’ve completed the course, you can apply for a peer education internship for SOCL credits. (Of course, you can also take the course as an elective without becoming an intern!) The course and the internship will become the core of an interdisciplinary sexual health microcredential, which means that you’ll be able to get a well-rounded, inclusive education on all things sexuality and sexual health.

As an intern, you’ll have the chance to (among other things) provide sexual health workshops in the residence halls and to campus organizations.  You’ll get to be involved in creating educational materials and web content, testing out workshops, outreach in MacVittie College Union and around campus, event planning, and promoting the program on social media.

We’re really excited about this initiative and the impact it can have on our campus community. Let’s make sure everyone has access to the knowledge and resources they need for safer and healthier sex. And if you’re into making a difference and getting hands-on experience with sexual health and education, think about joining the program as an educator when we launch in 2024! Not only will you  gain some valuable skills and knowledge along the way, but you’ll be creating a safer and healthier environment for Geneseo students in the years to come.

Keep an eye out for us on social media and around campus – and stay tuned for more updates!
