Introduction to Finding Your Flow
The Flow Theory was developed by psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi in his efforts to understand the experiences of exceptionally creative individuals like artists. The experience of flow (sometimes called “being in the zone”) occurs when an individual is strongly focused on a task that is very interesting and important to that person. The requirements for the task closely match the person’s skills, so that the task is quite challenging, but not impossible. The person concentrates so closely that they often lose their sense of time and feel swept away by the task. Research shows that the feeling of flow produces positive feelings and a sense of satisfaction that continue even after the task is completed.
