Environmental Geology

GSCI 200, Fall & Online

An online course that surveys important geologic concepts relevant to current environmental issues. Emphasis is placed on geologic principles underlying problems related to water resources, pollution, natural hazards, waste disposal, energy and mineral resources, and on the scientific basis for current strategies proposed to limit adverse consequences of our impact on environmental systems. Activities and assignments in the course include case studies on various topics, exploration of earth processes through Google Earth, and student development of informational wikis with risk assessments on assigned topics.
