Sedimentation

GSCI 352, Fall

This elective course examines how sediments form, weather, erode, and the sedimentary processes that transport them to their depositional environments. The goals of the course are to analyze sediments and sedimentary structures to determine processes and settings that led to their deposition, thereby shedding light on aspects of geologic history, paleoclimate, tectonic setting, and sea-level change. The course involves field and lab research, experiments, data synthesis and exploration where the student learns how to effectively present data/information gathered from the field, labs, and from their own independent experimental designs.
